I was a theater kid before I was a journalist, and then for a time I was both, and you can all see which won out in the end, but my heart still knows and feels the pull of the theater life. It’s probably why I’m so intrigued by and enamored with Team StarKid. They’re fascinating, both in terms of how they create and collaborate, as well as how they have been able to forge this digital to physical connection with a fan base. It’s great when pop culture can be an inspiration, that’s a driving force in what I do and I love seeing others succeed at it.
The StarKids were kind enough to give me and my photographer incredible access to a day of their tour in Los Angeles, allowing me the space to be an ethnographer (ironically for their archeology-themed show!) but not a fly on the wall – the reason so many people love them is you can’t help but love them. It’s very easy to feel awkward or out of place when you’re “the journalist” and you’re spending so much time with “the subjects,” and on the flip side there’s a point where you can feel “too close.” I’m so glad they gave me the space to feel neither.  I’m excited to share my story and Joseph’s beautiful photos (I know, really, that the photos are the liquid gold for fandom and you’ll reupload them to Tumblr, but click on Billboard please so I can prove you enjoyed it) of what a day in the life of Team Starkid is like with their fans.  Thank you Pat, Samara, Brian H, Brian R, Joey, Joe, Dylan, Meredith, Lauren, Jim, Jaime, Charlene, Megan, Tomek, Dave, Clark, Darren, Corey, Sarah, June, Liam, Julia and whomever I’m forgetting because there are a million of you. You’re totally awesome.
Ask is open as always.  If you want to know what Joey Richter smelled like I can already tell you it was “pork bbq.”

This was a really enjoyable article, I loved the description of the backstage antics.
